Time on Tuesday....

I'm continuing to read through the book I quoted yesterday, The World According to Mister Rogers, written by Fred Rogers.

Today's quote:  "We want to raise our children so that they can take a sense of pleasure in both their own heritage and the diversity of others."

I think this is vital for the world in which we live.

On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech that is known as the Gettysburg Address.  Following are some excerpts from that speech....

    "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

    "....we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

For Tuesday....


In 1883, American poet Emma Lazarus wrote "The New Colossus." Following are some of the words from that poem....

      "Give me your tired, your poor, 
       Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
       The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
       Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me.
       I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

These words are inscribed on a bronze plaque placed in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.

Monday's message.....

.....is about a safety pin.  Do you have one somewhere?  This may be a use you might consider for it.

There are those among us in our nation just now who are feeling threatened and vulnerable - more so than they usually feel.  I am joining with the Safety Pin America movement by wearing a safety pin on my clothing each day.  This indicates that anyone who is feeling threatened will be able to feel safe with me.
