Autumnal equinox....
The season of Autumn has officially arrived! Now, it's permitted to indulge in everything pumpkin!
This is also the day to remember the birthday of my mother. On this day in 1908, she was born. In the picture below, she is standing between my grandparents, her mother and father. Memories of her are with me daily.

September....
....is passing quickly! Have you taken time to make some special September memories?
One thing I always enjoy doing in September is visiting an apple orchard. The Husband is fond of picking his own. I am willing to allow others that pleasure, and I'll choose mine from those they have picked.:-) We were recently able to make some purchases from Barber's Orchard near Waynesville, NC. The varieties available depend on those that are "in season."
I'm hearing remarks about decorating for fall. Before I feel like it's time for that, our high temperatures will have to be lower than the nineties! Maybe even lower than the high-eighties! This feels like the middle of summer, not the verge of autumn!
I'll wait until October to spread the pumpkins and mums around, maybe even the middle of the month. Our front steps face the west, and the heat from that setting sun is certainly able to roast a pumpkin!
"What do you do with the apples from the orchard?" Is that what you are wondering? The following pictures show the journey of some McIntosh apples.

Have you heard?
I have heard that today is National Teddy Bear Day! Do you have a teddy bear? If you are a parent, is there a favorite teddy bear still around from times gone by? Perhaps you have one from your own childhood. How very special that would be!
A well-loved teddy bear 🐻 knows how valuable he is! He deserves regular hugs!
Have you hugged your teddy bear today?

Time passes....
Already, it's September 3! For some, this is the first day of the new school year. Where I am, however, the school year began for students a month ago, and before school inservice for teachers began on July 29!
Many of you know that I am a retired elementary public school teacher. This is the 17th school year that I am not beginning since I've been retired since the end of the school year in 2003!
Wanting to be sure that I am not missing anything (chuckle), I picked up this book recently and have been grabbing moments to read it.
It is apparent that this book has been written for someone younger than I am! In the years since I've retired, I've enjoyed a variety of activities that have filled my time very nicely!
How about you? Are you retired? Have you managed to fill your time with meaningful activities? Have you decided that part time work is for you? Do you think that you should fill every minute with something "productive?" If you are considering retirement, this book may be a good source of information for you!
My "retirement" accomplishments for this day? The bed is made, all the puzzles in the newspaper worked, and I'm enjoying the coolness of the morning on the porch before the heat of the sun becomes too much!
Take care of yourselves!
