Installing….

I’m posting this on what I have learned is National Kitten Day!  Isn’t that a neat honoring of our feline friends?  Everyone needs a little “fluff” in their lives!  Sadly, we have been without a cat for a number of years now.

We’ve been at this location for 19 years.  It is a small development….only one street that ends in a cul-de-sac….and we have underground utilities.  Comcast has been the only Internet provider, installing their lines at the onset of the development, which is in a rural area, now becoming a quickly growing, developing area of the county.

We have attempted to set up Internet service with a couple of other possibilities, neither one being as satisfactory as the Comcast connection.  That is….until recent progress.

The pictures below will show the beginning of the installation of fiber optic cable by our electric company.

The first photo above is where the installers were this afternoon, at the edge of our front yard.  They have been in the neighborhood for a couple of weeks digging what is needed for the conduit.  The second photo shows where they were working last week.

Here they are, beginning their work at the edge of our yard this morning.
One of their many work trucks at the edge of our driveway.
They have had lots of practice with those trenches.  This is from last week across the street from the house next door to us.

What are your Internet options where you live?  Do you have several servers from which to choose?  Is broadband Internet something that your electrical provider makes available?  More options mean more competition!  That has to be a good thing, right?  Hopefully we will find an Internet connection possibility that gives us a better rate!  That would definitely be a good thing!

Expect a bit of a “photo dump” from the first week in this month.  I may get to that before this week is gone!

  1. Goodness that seems a lot of work! When I got internet the engineer was here for 20 mins, plugged in my hub, turned it on and that was it. I have many ISP's to pick from. The only trouble is you have to sign up for 24 months.

  2. Good Morning Nellie,
We have just a couple of things to choose from. Our son actually set up our own service when he worked for a news station. It was so much better than what we have now. Its beautiful where you live.

  3. We had fiber optics go through our neighborhood several years ago. It did help with competition, but the prices are still quite high in our opinion. Hopefully this will be different for you.

  4. Comcast or Verizon are the two main ones where we live.
We have NuBeam which is for rural areas. No problems and we love.

  5. Well, Sister, when I first moved back to TN from MS, I was told that Comcast/Xfinity was my only option. That's what I have, with the "bundle" that includes Cable TV and landline (am I the only dinosaur who still uses a landline?!? It's quite a bit more expensive than the service I had in MS, but it seems to be reliable enough. Quite different from when we were growing up, right? Hope this will be a good option for you. Love you!

  7. I'm glad you are getting new internet service in your area, Nellie. I live up in the mountains, so there really are only a couple providers, and sometimes I've been frustrated with the one I have because of disconnections and such. But I'm grateful that we do have it up here. And Happy Kitten Day! There is a mama cat that Nel knows of that is having more babies, and Nel might get one of the kittens soon. Looks like you live in a nice neighborhood, the grass is so green and groomed. Enjoy the Summer days, Nellie.

  8. We have fiber optic now, but suffered with very poor service from our telephone company for years. What we have now is so much better, it is amazing.

  9. Hope your new internet service is treating you well ! We live in a retirement community and our internet/cable TV/ and phone are packaged together for about 100 a month. I am very pleased with the internet service - was running a little slow and they upgraded it. We love the cable because we get lots of HBO and other movie channels. Hope you are having a great July !
