There is a trend in some corners of social media to recall 2016. Here are some pictures I found from that time.
This was a special spot in town for lunch or shopping. I loved the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it is no longer open.We visited friends who live in The Waters near Montgomery, Alabama. Quite a lovely setting!
Mary Mahoney’s is located in Biloxi, Mississippi, and we were there to visit with my sister and her family. They no longer live in that area, having moved to town in 2020.
There was a chance to make a quick trip to New Orleans. The beignets are amazing!
A trip to Malaprops Bookstore in Asheville, NC came in June. This van gives you an idea of why we were there.
It was the opportunity to meet Susan Branch! She was signing books!
She also signed this scarf which I made from her own design on fabric I was able to order from Spoonflower.
Apparently we were doing a bit of traveling during the year. The Terrace at Lake Junaluska arranged these towels in this special shape.
Of course, there was the trip to Emory and Henry for Homecoming and a chance to see the marching band perform.
Currently, we’ve been on a weather watch here, and the forecast seems to keep changing. We in this location rarely have severe winter weather, so we usually need to take some time for extra preparation. Are you expecting a storm this weekend? Are you prepared?
Be safe! Stay warm and cozy!

My daughters tried those beignets in New Orleans, and they said they are amazing! Those towels are cool in the shape of a Swan. Susan Branch is very creative and her calendars are delightful. Thanks for sharing a bit of your travels with us, Nellie.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories post. Fun with the swan shaped towels and it looks like you did quite a bit of traveling that year. I love Susan Branch and have a couple of her books and have had several of her calendars over the years.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. xo Diana
Nice taking a look back a few years with you. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy memories! Oh, Nellie, the weather is atrocious! We're anticipating what will be our third named storm of 2026 already, and we're not yet done with January. I have stocked up my dried and canned goods, filled my freezer, topped up candles and batteries, and bought a wind up solar powered radio. I keep all my electricals fully charged too! FYI: recent ridiculous changes to our telephone system, now called Digital Voice, mean that if we get a power outage, we lose ALL our telephone communications, incl. emergency phone calls! It is ludicrous.
ReplyDeleteOne year we were at one of the Marriott Time Shares in Park City, Utah (Mountain Watch), and because we had 2 weeks, they did a cleaning for us at the end of the first week and made lovely swans like that with the towels. I thought it was very cool. We always leave a nice tip on our cleaning day, I think that's why they took the time to do that, because it's not a normal part of ones' scheduled cleaning. Try to stay warm.
