Summertime....

If "summertime" means watching fireflies at night and sleeping late in the mornings, it has come to an end for the students of our county.  Today is the first day of school for the 2016-17 school year.  Even the Munchkins will begin their school year (in another state) before this week is over!

When the Munchkins were visiting earlier this summer, we had a delightful trip to the Children's Museum in a nearby town.  I've been featuring pictures/displays from that visit, and this post will attempt to finish up that experience.

Have you spotted any toys you remember?

Did you have a dollhouse?

Is Little Women a book you remember reading when you were younger?

The museum brings back memories for most adults who visit, as well as creating opportunities for fun for the younger visitors.

When do public schools begin their school year where you live?

  1. Nellie, My 3 grandchildren that are still in school started this morning. So hard to believe. My daughter's school here in town will be starting on the 15th. I loved seeing all the dollies. So many I would have loved. I enjoyed buying dolls for my girls when they were small. Made a ton of doll clothes too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Such a fascinating place for the Munchkins to visit, and I can tell that there is much for the adults to enjoy as well! Our schools here started last week, and the school that is operated by our former church,in Seymour, will begin mid-month, I believe. It seems to get earlier each year for the public schools, and I surely hope the teachers enjoyed their rather fast vacation! Since our grandsons are home-schooled, the schedule is much more flexible! LOL The oldest did get his books at the local college he'll be attending, but I don't believe his classes start till the first week of September. Hope your day is going well so far, Sister. Love you!

  3. Nellie, our schools don't begin until after Labor Day. Our grandson will continue with college on the 22nd of this month.
I recognize many of the toys from the museum. The Madame Alexander dolls are so pretty. I have a couple in my collection. I like seeing the progression of the toys through the decades. ♥

  5. Yes, I had a doll house but not like that. Mine was metal with plastic furniture but I loved playing with it.
Wow school starts early by you.
Still a couple of weeks to go here yet but don't know the exact date.
I think I see a Patty Play Pal and a Betsy Wetsy doll in the 50's case. Had both of those. Had a pogo stick like that too.

  6. What a wonderful museum! My grandchildren aged from four to eleven would love it.
Here (Australia), the long summer school holidays commence a few days before Christmas and finish at the end of February when the new school year begins.
