Keeping our eyes sharp!

Wow! Here we are at the end of the first week of July already!  Did the time pass quickly for you?

It was time for that yearly eye exam recently.
Do you see any frames you like?

Although I could use a bit of a prescription, these still seem to serve me just fine.

No new glasses this time!

The women's chorus in which I sing had occasion to regroup, with heavy hearts, unfortunately.

We met for a special rehearsal to review these selections which we then sang at the service of a former member.

If blueberries are ripe, it must be time to bake!

A blueberry pie and blueberry muffins were first on the list!

Of course, food seems to be front and center in this blog's history.๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹That is apparently still the focus, especially when there is a holiday.

A spinach souffle from Susan Branch's new Heart of the Home (p. 84) and that favorite summer squash casserole - served in patriotic blue as well as a star-shaped baking dish - both from Longaberger.

While lasagna isn't usually a dish that is thought of for this season of the year, it was what this baking dish was requesting!

As you can see, it was met with great acceptance!

There are some standbys that I keep handy for reference during the summer -

- but I've added this one to expand my library.  It is still waiting for that first try!  Stay tuned!

We've spotted - not hard to do as it's right by the front door - the efforts of birds....

....to build a nest above this light!  Not a good spot, unfortunately, and much of the "supply" winds up here....

It is always a pleasure to have an opportunity to eat at Cracker Barrel!  While there are many good choices, this is what appealed to me....

Have you been shopping at a Farmer's Market near you?  Many fresh vegetables are available, and one recipe I like to make at this time is succotash....

This is one of my very favorites!
I send along wishes for a good week-end ahead!

  1. Oh, Sister!! I'm hungry already, since it's lunchtime here! Everything from your kitchen is always delicious, and your dishes make everything look most appealing! I opted for new glasses a couple of months ago, since my old ones were bifocals and I never did get used to them. I currently use a pair just for distance, and when I need to read, I just take them off! Simple wire frames work best for my face, I think, so that's what I have now. Happy Friday, and Happy July to you! Love you!

  2. Nellie, I can almost smell that good food cooking. LOL My daughter brought a lasagna to the picnic for Ted and I to bring home. Ted loves it, so he's had a couple serving since Wednesday. :) That succotash looks so summery. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  4. Nellie, we need to make appointments for our eye exams. You have some cute ones there. Thanks for the reminder.
I'm sorry to hear about one of your fellow singers.
Your food looks delicious and so nicely prepared. I hope you are having a great summer and staying cool, my friend. ♥

  5. Hi Nellie, all the food looks good, especially the pie and muffins. My hubby and I had lasagna at an Italian restaurant the other night. It seems like when your indoors in air conditioning you don't mind eating hot food in summer. I had my eyes checked a while back and got new glasses. Not a big change but was glad to have new frames. I usually try to discourage birds from building nest on our porch because they make such a mess but I love to watch them. Been known to build in hanging pots! 6. Yum! Those are the types of foods my husband loves! He asked me last night to make some banana bread. I guess I'll be heating up the kitchen with the oven at some point today! I like that star shaped dish. I think I need one for our July 4th party. I haven't had time to post pictures or put away holiday decorations. Maybe today.

Ps. Now I'm craving blueberry muffins!
