A discipline for 2019....

Making resolutions for the new year hasn't ever been a real practice here.  This year, however, I have decided to discipline myself to do some journal writing daily.

I participate in an online book club on Twitter, and our most recent read was "Grateful" by Diana Butler Bass.  When I happened upon the "Gratitude Journal for Women" on a sale rack, then spied the lone dish towel amongst others with a Valentine theme, it seemed as though I was being nudged toward considering gratitude at this point in time.  Now, to discipline myself to take about five minutes a day to write in that journal!

As I have been considering gratefulness, it seems to me to be slightly different from thankfulness, but it's difficult for me to elaborate on the difference.  What about you?  Do you relate thankfulness and gratefulness to be the same....or different?

  1. I wanted a gratitude journal, and I happen to mention it to my daughter and she bought one for me for Christmas. I love mine and I love looking for things to be thankful for each day. I like your kind of discipline. :)

  2. Nellie, I kind of group gratefulness with thankfulness. I've kept a gratitude journal for years. It is full of constant reminders of how wonderful life is. Also along with disappointments that remind me of the ups and downs of life there is always something to be grateful for! ♥

  3. Nellie, I should keep journals. I used to when my daughters were young. I have always told them it can relief stress. :) Blessings, hope all is well there, xoxo, Susie

  4. I am grateful for anything that is God-given. I am thankful for anything anyone does for me or those that have a presence in my life. Not sure if that makes sense or not. xo Diana

  5. Hi Nellie, I just came back from picking up my mail at the mailbox just now and was very grateful for receiving a Christmas card from you. How thoughtful of you.
I'm grateful because you have reached out to me with an act of kindness and now I'm thankful.

You are right, Gratefulness and thankfulness are almost alike but Gratitude is an appreciation of gifts or benefits received and it thankfulness is more like an expression of the action of acknowledging thanks. It's kind of convoluted but both are great movement of the heart.

I must get back to writing my gratitude journal too.
    Thanks for the lovely reminder.
    Hugs, Julia

  6. Well, Sister, since you asked.....I look at gratitude as a movement of the heart for all of life's blessings. Thankfulness, as I see it, is more like immediate appreciation for something someone does that gives you a warm feeling inside. Now, I'm not sure whether that makes any sense, but that's my answer, and I'm sticking with it! Love you!
