With not a lot of time....

....what does one do on the very first trip to the New Orleans area?

We were actually in the area for a wedding in Baton Rouge, and I was to read scripture during the ceremony.  That involved rehearsal, so we had very few hours on the morning of the wedding to make a hurried trip to New Orleans.

Off we went, found a parking place, and began walking!  Lots of walking!:-)  Our goal was Cafe Du Monde.  From where we were, this was our closest location -

Not exactly the original site; however, still those delicious beignets!  I was too involved in the powdered sugar covered delicacies to remember to take a picture.:-(  I am able to tell you, however, that they were wonderful!

Had to bring some coffee home with us!  What a great souvenir!

And....we made it back to Baton Rouge in good time!

  2. Well, I've never been to this place, which is supposed to be the ultimate place for those delicious creations, but we have a couple of places here in Biloxi that make them, and they are WONDERFUL!!! I'm so glad you took the time to go to NOLA while you were in the area! Have a wonderful afternoon, Sister! Love you!

  3. Hi Nellie! I've been to New Orleans many times and love it, the beignets, French Market, great restaurants, music, architecture and all. On one visit, I brought home a beignet mix to make them. Not the same as eating one there at all! :-) Wish I had one now and a cup of their coffee. Take care

  5. I've never been to New Orleans. I don't know why, but I have no desire to go. I guess I have a greater wish to see other places.

    Love,

  6. I am envious of your coffee! My brother and husband visited Café de Monde several years ago and brought me a can of that delicious coffee!

  10. Funny, there is a Café du Monde in Quebec City, which is more like continental and posh. I haven't been there in decades, literally, but I remember it being delicious.

  11. I have never been to New Orleans and have also never had beignets. I need to rectify this travesty!!

  12. I haven't been to New Orleans in several years, but Cafe du Monde is a favorite! Wish you'd had more time to enjoy a bowl of gumbo or a big plate of boiled crawfish; they would have been in season when you were there. Fortunately, while living in central Louisiana for 6 years, David learned to make amazing gumbo, and it's a staple at our house during Tennessee winters. But it's been far too long since we had beignets... I trust you enjoyed them enough for all of us!
