Wait! There's more....

The previous post was all about the Children's Museum in Oak Ridge.  I actually took LOTS of pictures, and there is material for a week's worth of posts!  In this one, the focus is on how Oak Ridge began.

There is so much information displayed that it is almost difficult to learn all of it!  The next post will feature what it was like to live in Oak Ridge during these days.

  1. Nellie, This had to be so interesting. I would love to see all this. I , myself just bought a tinny book on the man our town and county were after. Now I am wondering why all his fame was not taught to us in our history classes...if it was , I must have been sleeping.:):) Can not wait to read more. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Sister, as I have grown older, I have come to realize just how fortunate we were to be right in the shadow of Oak Ridge. I do not remember specifically when it was shut off to itself, but I can remember seeing the billboards admonishing folks to "keep it classified." These days, one wouldn't ever dream of the way things were back then, but we had many classmates at our elementary school whose parents worked at one of the facilities there. They were happy to be allowed to move into "normal" housing and attend public schools during that time. I hope your Tuesday is going well so far, and that you'll have a calm afternoon. Lost you!

  3. I love these kinds of museums. It reminds me of the York Castle Museum.

  4. The history of Oak Ridge is quite interesting, Nellie. It was a different time for sure. I wish we had no need for such programs. Having said that, I'm not naive about evil in our world. My husband would enjoy this exhibit. xo ♥

  5. From what I understand, there is a lot of radioactive waste buried there. My brother-in-law lived nearby for a time and we considered moving there until I learned that little tidbit of information. Lost my interest after that. It's a beautiful area!
