On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech that is known as the Gettysburg Address. Following are some excerpts from that speech....
"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."
"....we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

ReplyDeleteI often wonder what he might have accomplished if his life had not been cut short by an assassin's hatred, much like Martin Luther King's, John Kennedy's, and his brother Robert's. When people allow their emotions to overtake their common sense, it's a recipe for trouble, and we have seen far too much of that in our lifetime, Sister! My hope is that each American will be calm and as logical as possible, giving as much thought to his/her actions as Mr. Lincoln gave to his words.
