Remembering....

On this day, in 1908, a baby girl was born to my grandparents.

Here they are when she was a bit older....

....and here she is older still....

....and still older.

I am remembering how Mother taught me about whipping egg whites to make meringue, though that is something I do not do very often.  She also taught me about tempering eggs before adding them to a hot custard mixture.

So - on this day - I especially think of her and the occasions we were together specifically to celebrate her birthday.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  3. beautiful pictures! It doesn't matter how long time marches on after the passing of out mother a daughter always remembers and longs for more time with her mother. You mentioned your mother taught you to beat egg whites, it was my mother-in-law that taught me and I inherited her cooper bowl used for nothing but making meringue !

  5. Our mother was indeed a special lady, with a quiet strength that surprised many people through the years. I miss her every day, but would not bring her back from Heaven even if I could. Have a wonderful day, Sister, as you recall our special mother.

  16. If only we could have our mothers back with us for just one more day. Like your Mother, mine is no longer here, but every time I fold a fitted sheet without a wrinkle, make chicken & dumplings for dinner or divide plants in the spring time, I feel my Mom is right there beside me. Because without her teaching me those small skills & countless others, I would never have learned them on my own. I am so grateful for the time I did have with my Mom. A part of them continues to live through us, their daughters.
