Assisting with Veterans Day....

Happy Wednesday to you!  I know this post is a bit "after the fact," but it is always a good day to remember our veterans and their service to our country.

This is the tenth school year of my retirement.  A fellow retired teacher returns to our school to help plan a special program honoring the veterans who have a connection with the school.  She enlists some of us to assist, and that is where I headed at 6:40 on Monday morning!  Yikes!  That is really early for this retiree!:-)

Name tags for attendees!

More names.

Two tables had this covering.

It was my job to welcome veterans and see that they had their name tags.  Then, Boy and Girl Scouts were on hand to escort the veterans to their proper location.

The program was really good, with music performed by the local middle school orchestra, and a speech given by a local TV news anchor.  I was really glad I began my day early in my red, white, and blue just to have a chance to show appreciation to this great group of veterans!

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.

  5. Nellie, My daughter is a fifth grade teacher...she has always had a program for the vets. She loves it, but has lost some of the sweet old vets that have come to school for years. Service people from the near by air base come too. It's a nice learning experience for the children. xo, Susie

  8. This is the first year, since having grandchildren in school, that we've missed. Our youngest granddaughter had the flu. It's a great thing for the schools to do this and allow the younger generation to learn about what the wonderful veterans and current servicemen and women, have done and are doing, for us.

  10. Susan, thank you for your inspirational posts! I truly appreciate your upbeat attitude and I also enjoy looking at your lovely collections!

While I didn't help with any programs for Veterans' Day, I did attend one that was presented by our elementary students at our Christian school, and those children gave me chills with their singing and recitations! When we opened the program with the pledges to the American and Christian flags and to the Bible, I got misty-eyed, just thinking about all that was sacrificed so we could have the freedoms that we take for granted. I hope we NEVER lose our love for our nation!
