On the way....

I send wishes to you for a happy Tuesday.  The week well on the way!  Also on the way are cooler temperatures later in the week, maybe even freezing or below for low temperatures!  Of course, a little rain will come first, possibly today.

The last blog mentioned our trip to Homecoming at Emory and Henry this past week-end.  On the way, we stopped in Abingdon where we stayed with a very good friend who operates a superb bed and breakfast there.   We took some time to walk along the street and poke around in a shop or two.  Unfortunately, I neglected to take the camera and regretted it when I saw the first lamp post display.  When we were in the car later, I attempted to photograph what I thought was such a good thing to share with you.  Let's see how these two pictures will appear here.

Are  you able to see the display on the corner?

Heading west into town.

Well, I am disappointed in myself because I have failed to show you the cute little ghosts that were attached to the lamp posts where the bales of hay and corn shocks were positioned.  They were on each post and just a cute as could be!  They would light up at night!

When we were leaving town on Sunday, we stopped at the gas station.  Crossing the sky were at least 50 geese in several groups.  Some of the groups were more successful than others in forming the customary v-shape.  I have never seen that many geese flying together before, and it was really exciting to me to see them!  Taking a picture was almost impossible as they were not near enough for good focus.:-(

There may be a recipe with pictures in the next post!  You never know!:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. Oh, I am sure you had a lovely drive around town. Abingdon is a quaint little town, but the growth in the past several years has been remarkable. I'm sure that many of the folks who grew up in the town are not terribly happy with the "progress" that came along after Interstate construction, but I'm also sure that many enjoy the shopping and dining opportunities that are there now. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Have a terrific Tuesday! :-)

  2. Hi Nellie!

Before I forget, again, how's that finger of yours doing???

I never have luck taking pictures through the car window, lol...

When I clicked on the lamp post picture, it did make it large enough to see the lamp post. It's the thought that counts. I'm sure it was festive to see.

Cute little town. It reminds me of PA a little. We have lots of cute little towns around here too.

Thank you so much for sharing, Nellie..."See" you at the Pasta Party!

  3. I clicked on the pictures but I couldn't tell what I should be looking at, after clicking on them what I noticed was it wasn't crowded with thousands of cars like here. How blue the sky is and how clean every thing looks. My uncle got back from a trip to Ohio and his remark about California was " We are living in a third world country." Seeing your pictures just reminds me of that.
It looks so nice to be there.

  6. I could almost, just barely, make out the hay bales, but that's about it.

It's been cooler, but kind of dreary around here, with rain off and on. While I do like the cooler weather, the rain makes it difficult to get out and actually enjoy it.

Stitches out tomorrow, right? Good luck!

  9. We used to go for a ride in the country on Sunday when we were less busy and I miss it. Great shots through a clean windshield.

  12. What a cute town even if we didn't see the ghosts and decorations!;>)

It looks like you had a good time and that is all that really matters. The geese have been flying South from here, too. It is about 38 degrees right now- xo Diana
