Fourth Sunday in Advent....

Today is December 22, 2013, the fourth Sunday in Advent.

The Mission Focus in the UMW Prayer Calendar for 2013 is the Appalachian Service Project in the United States.

Our three daughters went with work teams from our church when they were in high school and college to various locations where ASP work was underway.  What a rewarding experience for them!

These words of Zechariah as found in Luke 1:72 ~

"Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors

and has remembered his holy covenant."

May this day be filled with blessings for you!

  1. I was curious and so I "googled" the Appalachian Service Project and read about the wonderful things they do. Thanks for sharing. I will also be praying for the people in need and the people helping out with this project. Have a blessed Sunday.

  3. Nellie, What a good post. I know your daughters learned a lot going to the ASP. Some people can't conceive of the great poverty there. Here in the USA. Take care and enjoy your wonderful holidays ahead. A Merry Christmas to you and your loving family, xoxo,Susie

  4. Yes, there are many impoverished people in the hills of Appalachia, and the needs are great. I appreciate the effort Channel 10 makes with the Mission of Hope, too. There are always people who have greater needs than ours, if we'll just take our eyes off ourselves long enough to see them.

We were blessed by our church service this morning, and by the presence of some folks who are not always there. Have a wonderful afternoon, Sister! :-)

  5. Our daughter also went on a mission trip with the youth group to Appalachia - this is quite a number of years ago, but it was a wonderful experience for her. I believe they still need help in that area.
