We will have blueberries....

After receiving record-breaking rainfall for the date of April 28, the sun made an appearance on Monday afternoon!  More is expected today, though there is rain once again mentioned before the week is over.

I am certain we will have blueberries, even though we might be later than we would like planting our vegetable garden.

Beginning to bloom.

More blooms on the way.

Even more.

We have enjoyed a good blueberry harvest for several years.  Hopefully there will not be a late freeze that will damage the blueberries this season.

We may even have some cherries.

Full of blooms.

Hopefully there will be enough cherries so we won't have to fight so much with the birds.:-)  I believe there is a mockingbird who thinks the cherry tree and the blueberry bushes are just for him!:-)  He has not ever been very happy when I have gone to pick blueberries.:-)

On my last post, I mentioned the likelihood of having that first ripe strawberry by the end of the week. I think I was a bit too hopeful.  It will probably be another week before we have any ripe strawberries.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. Nellie, How do we ever get enough cherries to make pie...birds are fast pickers. I have never seen blueberries growing, do they have thorns too? we are having a spring day here...one of the best, also rain for us a bit later this week. bummer. xoxo,Susie

  5. Every thing looks so pretty. Spring is taking it's sweet time isn't it? Your blue berries will be nice. It is funny how birds think that all of that fruit out there is theirs.
I hope you have a sunny day today before more rain.

  7. You and The Husband seem to have a knack for growing luscious crops, and I'm sure that wet vegetable garden spot will be dry enough to produce much for you eventually! Hopefully, the birds will become tired of your lovely blueberries and cherries before they are all gone, and you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Have a great day!

  11. Good day my friend. I rushed off to the Arboretum and got a lot of columbine pictures, some wild geranium as well.

I would love to have some blueberries and strawberries too, but to do that, I must work. That's the hard part if you will forgive my saying that about the act that yields such riches to the mouth and tummy.

    :-)
