More about books....

Well, we have another Friday!  Are you glad to have the week-end so near?  Are there special plans you might have for this week-end?

As you know, if you have been following this blog for awhile, I have a love of books, especially good children's books.  While I was teaching, I became aware of Ruth Heller.

Books on nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and more!

Also books based on science concepts.

And that's not all!  Even art!

Isn't this beautiful?

So colorful!

Ruth Heller not only wrote the books, she also illustrated them!  They continue to be a favorite of mine!  I used them to read aloud to the children to further reinforce concepts of language and science. They were excellent to use in the classroom!

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate  your comments.

  1. Well, you know that I also love books! One of our favorites when our children were growing up was by Richard Scarry (sp?), and he had a marvelous talent for making language fun! I don't see his books any longer, and I suspect that some of them may not be considered "politically correct," but they were very helpful and gave us lots of laughs! I still recall one: "Show me a shaved, shorn sheep in shiny shoes, and I'll show you a sheep in sharp shape! LOVED those alliterations! I'll have to check Amazon....

  2. LOVE childrens books even now. I found a re-make of Dick and Jane in hardcover at Wal-Mart no less a place and while the familiar illustrations were there as well as some of the words. The story was at least it seemed to me, truncated (or so it seemed to me). Mind, that was quite awhile ago that I first read it. :-) The beginning of second grade so I may be wrong.

  9. What a great selection of books for kids, Nellie. If you find books that combine arts and science, let me know. I like books that inspire kids to think out of the box. This selection looks good! Thank you for sharing your list on my blog the other day.

  10. Nellie, I always felt that children should be encouraged to read aloud . I keep telling my daughter to have her daughter read to her while she fixes dinner everyday. Just to keep her reading.I still love to read children's books.xoxo,Susie
