A new gadget....

Do you like to add new gadgets to help your work in the kitchen?  The Husband recently came home with one that we hoped would work for the task that needed to be completed.

It is a food chopper with two separate blades, one for smaller dice, and one for larger dice.  There is also the little fork that assists in cleaning out the blades when they are in use.

We needed it to help with these:

These are some of the onions from the garden.  They were not candidates for drying out for use through the coming fall and winter, so their fate was to be chopped and stored in the freezer.

Here is that chopper in use, and here are the results of this effort.

Storing these in 1/2 cup portions will be very helpful!

The other onions are hanging on the rafters of the shed.  It was too dark there for me to get a good picture.  Perhaps it will work another day.

I hope you are having a good week thus far.  After the storms came through our area last night, we have some cooler temperatures, very unlike the usual temperatures for July.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. Those onions look great, and I'm sure you'll have many good uses for them! I love having chopped onions in the freezer, so easy to add to casseroles and such.

I am LOVING these cooler temperatures! Would be great if they could last all year! Have a terrific Tuesday, Sister!

  4. The man is a keeper but you should know that by now. Anything to make life easier. No need to peel and chop... I've never froze onions but I've froze some leeks. I lost my leeks when I lost my freezer during hurricane Arthur. Damaged by the generator.

The onions have kept well in my garage. I keep them in cardboard boxes to protect them from freezing and I've kept some in the basement too.

  11. I need a food chopper like that, I have been doing it all by hand and it takes me hours. I bet that would speed things up, the onions always take so long to chop.

  12. I love gadgets, but have pretty much stopped buying them because eventually we'll have to down size and get rid of lots of stuff. That day is coming. That looks like a good one tho and with all your veges that you grow, that should save you time.
