Make It Happen!

Rabbit, rabbit!  Isn't that what we say on the first day of a new month?  Welcome to May!

I have been blogging this week about the recent UMW Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky.  With the theme "Make It Happen!" those attending were presented with more than 100 workshops and town halls from which to choose.  The special Assembly offering will fund projects addressing global maternal health and environmental justice through advocacy and direct services with women, children, and youth.

Just a few of the approximately 8,000 attending!

Away in the distance was the stage.

As a lifelong United Methodist, and because of her efforts in improving maternal health and ending human trafficking, Hillary Clinton was invited to be Saturday's keynote speaker.

Amanda Powell was the Assembly music director, and she had assembled the first all-woman Assembly band.  The music was phenomenal!  Also appearing were the Red Bird Cardinal Singers from Red Bird Mission in Kentucky and the Summer of Sisterhood, a musical group from Westside Community House, a national mission institution in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Scripture focus was Mark 6:30-44. and Friends of the Groom, an acting troupe from Cincinnati, Ohio that tries to bring the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ alive through drama and comedy.

Thousands of women attending participated in a march for economic justice on Saturday from the Convention Center to Baxter Square Park in West Louisville, an event that had been planned for over a year.

United Methodist Women Assembly is held every four years, and the next one will be in Columbus, Ohio in 2018.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.
