Our winter....

As I mentioned in the last post, our rain gauge has measured over eight inches of rain since late Sunday afternoon.  I was skeptical of the weather forecast that had the mention of snow for Thursday afternoon.

A little on the ground....

On the rooftop....

Then - the sunset to the west....

....and moving to the east.
Our snow began about 2:30, and it took a little break before resuming.  It had stopped by the time the sun would set.  This is the first sunset we have seen here in several days!

The local schools are closed today.  Some parts of the county have much more than we have here.  In fact, there was quite a mess for traffic in other areas yesterday afternoon.

Anyway, this is about the story of our usual winters here.  There were some years when the girls were young that we had much more winter-type weather.   The hill on our street would sometimes be a solid sheet of ice, with no traffic anywhere in sight!  Sledding was the only activity that would take place then!:-)

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.

  1. You ARE on a hill! Lovely. No one else's rain water, will come cascading down on you!

Beautiful photos of bits of sunset, just under the edge of the cloud cover. Just beautiful...

Ever notice how many cloudy days will begin/end with a slice of bright sky, on the horizon, at dawn and at sun set? Interesting...

  2. Nellie, Be careful when you go out. That is a lot of rain. All the ice ponds that were in everyone's yards this past week , have disappeared with the sun we had. Today is another beautiful sunny. Just lifts my spirits. Enjoy your weekend. xoxo,Susie

  3. Well, we had about 3-4 inches of the white stuff, and the parking area near our building was icy, so we stayed home, very thankful that our power stayed on!! We did not see any sunset here, though, as the snow continued to come down and the sun stayed warm behind those clouds! Thankful for a sunny day today that will melt most of the ice, anyway!

  4. Looks quite cold to me, even if you didn't get what you were expecting. I saw on the news, yesterday, snow really coming down (somewhere) in Mississippi!

  5. So pretty! We seldom get snow here in the Atlanta area. Today the sun is shining and even though it is cold it's making me very happy!
