Last Friday....

Good Saturday morning to you!  Do you have some good week-end plans ahead?

If you have been following the blog, you know that I have been sharing our experiences at More Than A Vacation at Emory and Henry College last week.  Yesterday I shared part of last Friday.  Today, there is even more!

Smyth County, VA has built a new hospital and arrangements have been made with Emory and Henry for use of the old buildings.  Below is a picture showing a renovated commons area of one of the buildings.  Emory and Henry plans to begin a Physical Therapy program with the first class beginning in June 2014.  We were given a tour around this building, located less than an hour from the main campus.

There will be a refrigerator, microwave, etc. added along with seating.
After touring this facility, we then went to Hungry Mother Park for some fun together.  We had a marvelous barbecue picnic, followed by a watermelon seed spitting contest!  The prize was, of course, a watermelon!

More information along the way..

Tables for us on one side of the shelter....

....and on the OTHER side.

A view of Hungry Mother Lake.

Some of the surrounding area.

More of the area showing the lake; blurry since the bus was moving.:-)
As we drove thorough downtown, we passed this well-known landmark.

Do you ever watch this on PBS?

A program showing future events.

It was on this Friday evening, after The Husband and I had boarded the bus, that City Girl surprised us by hopping on just before we were ready to return to campus!  So, off we went to ride back to campus with her.  Business obligations had prevented her from joining the group earlier.  It was a real treat to have her along.

I should mention that Hungry Mother Park and the Lincoln Theater are in Marion, VA, as well as the future home of the E&H physical therapy program.  If all goes well, plans are to add a Physician's Assistant program and an Occupational Therapy program in the future.  There is plenty of room for expansion.

There is still more to come.  I may have mentioned earlier  that our "FL" really keeps us busy!:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. How wonderful that E & H will be able to add those medical programs to their offerings! I hope they will have many interested applicants, and that those programs will be a huge success, as there is great need for such well-trained professionals in those fields.

I do believe that Virginia is one of the most beautiful states in the US, with all the hills and greenery. Of course, I may be a bit biased, but I think the Southeast has the MOST amazing scenery anywhere in the world! Have a wonderful day and weekend, Sister!

  6. It sounds like a fun time at the picnic in the park. I've never heard of a watermelon spiting contest. Sounds fun but gross, lol.
