Do you remember what was happening a year ago?  The call for “lockdown” was to come very soon.  Now, a year later, there have been prompts to post those last pictures taken before lockdown.  Some of these may have appeared on the blog earlier.  I have decided, however, to post them again.

On the last weekend in February of 2020, we were in Asheville, NC where we visited the Downton Abbey exhibit at Biltmore.
This is the lovely wedding dress worn by Lady Edith in the TV series.
This view is from the back.
This is the dining table that was set for Lord/Lady Grantham, family, and guests.
This was my favorite of the dresses that had been worn by Lady Mary.
On the first Sunday in March, we were treated to brunch at Grove Park Inn.  No pictures of the marvelous food, for some strange reason.  This is the view from the outside patio.
Just a day earlier than our March 12 “lockdown,” I had brought these home from the grocery.  Daffodils are one of the favorite flowers I like to have for St. Patrick’s Day.

Do you have special plans for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?  Is there a traditional menu you prepare for the day....or the season?  Corned beef and cabbage seems to be a popular choice.  I believe that’s what I’ll have on our menu!  It’s a favorite here!

Take care, be safe, and stay well.

  1. Oh, such lovely pictures, Sister! My memory of that day is somewhat bittersweet, as I had gone to have lunch with my husband at his nursing home, as usual, and was met at the door by a supervisor who told me they were on lockdown. The day before had been my last lunch with him, and sadly, there were no more meals with him until his passing in January. He's feasting on milk and honey now, though, so I'm happy for him! Enjoy your St. Patrick's Day meal....I have no idea what I'll be served, but I'm sure I'll eat it with gratitude. Love you!

We don't do anything for St Patricks Day.

  3. The dresses are lovely and so is the table setting.

We always had some celebratory function to go to for St Patric Dad and the menu usually consisted of corned beef and cabbage.

I hadn't even thought of it until you mentioned it. I suppose we will have corned beef and cabbage with just the two of us.
It's fun to have something to celebrate about.

  4. The costumes are beautiful. I've read that most of the clothes on Downton Abbey were from the time period so were delicate and couldn't be laundered. Some cast members said they were quite stinky!

    Love,

  5. Happy memories of happier, safer days. The research and detail that goes into costume dramas these days is so immense and thorough it's like a living history lesson. Enjoy your Saint Patrick's Day fayre!

  6. Hi Nellie. I love daffodils. Also, I usually make a corned beef and cabbage dinner. I've found, however, it's less expensive after St. Patty's day. Take care and have a nice Sunday.

  7. What a treat it must have been to see the Downton Abby exhibit at the Biltmore! I loved that show. I always make corned beef and potatoes, carrots and cabbage for St Patrick's Day. It's a tradition I look forward to.

  9. The Downton Abbey exhibit sounds interesting. You know, I've never watched the show before, but I've heard it was really good. That long dress is so elegant and pretty. The daffodils are beautiful and such a cheerful Spring flower.

    Have a peaceful Sunday, Nellie.
