Still September....

While we are seeing lots of these popping up all over --

....it is still September.  Well, the last day, anyway.:-)

The following pictures show September at our place.

That knock-out rose bush just keeps blooming!

These grape tomatoes "volunteered" from the compost bin!

The strawberries are still blooming - here....

....and here!

Making a new appearance, though, is this --

I had wanted some Morning Glories, though I fear this one is going to "choke out" other things that are nearby!

It is still much like late summer here.  How about where you are?

Long enough....

These have plainly been around long enough --

Time to turn them into something much more appetizing!

Skinnytaste will not let me down!

Here they are, just out of the oven!

Perfect for breakfast with homemade applesauce!  Says "Autumn" to me!

Friday's mail....

It was 5:00 before our mail arrived on Friday afternoon.  When I went to the box, it had definitely been worth the wait!  This is what I opened -

This is Susan Branch's new book!

Do you need to ask me how I spent my week-end?:-)

Check her website - susanbranch.com - for details on ordering your copy!

Autumn in our backyard!

This is not what one expects to see during this season -

It looks like it is "Strawberry Time" in "Big Orange Country!" :-)

Resources....

Now that Autumn has truly arrived - according to the calendar - there are some dependable resources I turn to for help.

This is an amazing book from one of my favorite people.  It is available on her website - susanbranch.com - and was reissued last year on the 10th anniversary of the first publication.

Also, from the same author, is Vineyard Seasons, and it is in this book that the following is found:

We all have our favorite ways to celebrate this season.  What are your favorite things about Autumn?

More than one....

There is more than one reason to remember today.  Not only is this the first official day of autumn, it is the birthday of my mother.

She is pictured above as a child....

....and here she is a little older.

Mother was born in 1908, so this would be her 107th birthday!  Happy Birthday, Mother!  All you taught me is with me daily!

"A good meal is not complete....

....without dessert." - The Husband :-)

Therefore, Apple Cobbler, aka Apple Batter Pie, was served.

Is there something missing?

Yes!  This is always a good topping for apple pie!

Glassware - Nouveau by Colony, now discontinued.
Baking dish - Strawberries and Cream by Villeroy and Boch, now discontinued.

Not for long....

This soup bowl will not sit empty very long!

Homemade vegetable beef soup will fill it nicely!

Oh! That cornbread from the last post was perfect with it, too!:-)

September....

....is at that half-way point.

The crepe myrtle is still holding onto some blossoms....

....but the burning bush continues its journey....

....and we are loving the petunias!

Before September....

....we were out of town for a short week-end.  It was the time of the Green Corn Moon, and we walked the streets of downtown Lebanon, Ohio just as the moon was ready too appear.  Lebanon is a charming town, and we saw several folks in the line for ice cream treats.  It was a good thing the line was long!:-)

There is a historic inn downtown.

I am sorry this is so blurry.:(

The only time I have seen a William and Mary shop is in Williamsburg, VA.

Darkness became a consideration, and I didn't take any other pictures.

September is practically two weeks "old" now.  The official first day of autumn will soon arrive!  I'm eager to see some cooler temperatures after the past summer.  How about you?

A surprise "harvest...."

We set out strawberry plants in the spring, hoping to harvest some in 2016 - and giving the rabbits a bit of happiness for 2015. :-)  Surprisingly, we have been able to harvest a few berries this summer!  Now, it is not a large harvest, but they were certainly very tasty!

In the jungle....

Well, not exactly a jungle full of trees and other growth.  This "jungle" gave a great opportunity to shop!

Have any of you ever been to Jungle Jim's?

The jungle animals were visible before entering the store!

Good advice for all of us!

Yes! Chocolate pizza sounds wonderful!

These pictures were taken at the Jungle Jim's store in the East Gate section of Cincinnati.  Once inside the store, there were too many things demanding attention that the camera was very quickly forgotten!  Food items from all regions are available to be bought!  Quite an experience!

The first time I saw Paris.....

......it was in Bourbon County, Kentucky!

In addition to the downtown area.....

....there were some pretty views - plus -

acknowledgement that livestock is a major player in the life of this area!

The street is one-way, so it would be several hours before we would see these following examples -

Wish I could tell you about the pictures.:-)  We didn't stop to take a tour, and I was a passenger as we were driving along.  It was a really pretty town.

If I ever have plans to visit Paris, France, you can be sure I will let you know.:-)

Are you ready.....

....for a new month?  Ready or not - here comes September!

Susan Branch has given us a great greeting for September with this page from her calendar for 2015!  September holds some special days for us.  What about you?
