The last rose of summer....

On Wednesday afternoon, with the local weather forecasters predicting frost, The Husband and I went out to see what might be needing to be protected, brought inside, or forgotten until spring.

I headed to the knock-out rose bushes, and this is the result.

I added some mums for extra color.  Not much of a flower arranger, though.

The Husband cut off the tops of the sweet potato plants (the late planting), picked all the peppers and  okra, and also picked all the tomatoes.

We didn't have any damaging frost on Wednesday evening or on Thursday evening.  I am writing this on Friday evening - for posting on Saturday morning - and the forecast is for below-freezing temperatures by Saturday morning!  It is definitely cold outside!

I hope you have a good Saturday.  Our Tennessee Vols have traveled to Alabama to play the #1 ranked team in college football.  Then, the World Series picks back up tonight, this time in St. Louis.  I expect we will be keeping up with both football and baseball just a bit.:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. We had a hard frost here in central KY this morning. It was actually quite beautiful. And good luck against those Tide. That's gonna be a tough one :)

  2. Well, dear Sister, I see that your flowers are sporting the colors of the Crimson Tide this morning! I hope that's not a prediction of a victory for our Alabama friends! Seriously, that is a lovely bouquet, no matter what team it represents. I hope you're having a good day, although it really is quite cold this morning. I'm in for the day, and happy to have the heat! :-)

  3. Still no frost here and we have a gorgeous autumn day. I'd cheer on Tennessee, but I am a Vanderbilt fan. Great day for a football game. Have a lovely Saturday.

  5. That is a beautiful bouquet Nellie.
When I was offered fresh tomatoes this summer I couldn't chew them. I would love another 'real' tomato. Enjoy your last ones.

  7. Those roses are gorgeous! I really like that you were able to get one last cutting off the bushes. It is cold here, too. Really cold and hitting freezing at night. I am not at all ready.

The Mr. will probably watch the World Series tonight and our football is all about the Packers here. xo Diana

  10. There are lots of knock out roses in my yard and they have been blooming right through the dusting of snow and cold temperatures. They must be hardy plants!!
Your roses and mums go so pretty together.
