Continuing the week-end....

Here we are at another Tuesday.  This is the day I provide lunch for the adult day care center of my church.  That usually brings along some recipes.  That will have to wait another day, but there are some coming.  I want to continue reviewing the week-end here since yesterday's post only covered Friday afternoon!

On Saturday morning we headed to a nearby town for an antique fair.  Wouldn't you know it?  Just as we were leaving, the sprinkles began.  It wasn't long until the sprinkles became a serious rainfall!  That isn't what these vendors wanted to see!

This picture was taken at a "lull" in the rain.  There were vendors lining the street as well as some that had set up in other green spaces along the way.  Of course, the antique stores were doing well with a lot of traffic, but the outdoor booths had a lot to overcome with the weather.:-(

Oh, you wonder if I bought anything?  Well, yes.  But - it is small and soft and will take up very little room.

Perfect to decorate for the Fourth of July.

Returning home, we chose a different route through another nearby town.  Mission: Panera for lunch!

Yes, Miss Katie Isabella!  We were in your town!  Perfect day for black bean soup!

As the rain increased in its intensity, what could we do that afternoon but watch the Kentucky Derby?!?

We haven't missed watching many of them.  In fact, in 1972 we were there to watch it in person!  I don't even recall the horse who won that year.

Sunday's visitor.

City Girl came through on Sunday just long enough for lunch.  She was on her way "over the mountain" for a work-related conference. 

Sunday afternoon gave us time to look out at this.

Wet, wet garden spot.

There are pools of water sitting in the garden spot from all the rainfall.  The rain gauge showed four inches on Monday morning.  That would be from the week-end's rainfall.  The only day this week that there is no rain in the forecast is Thursday, then more is expected for next week-end!  It will take a LOT of dry, sunny days for the garden to dry out enough for tilling.  No planting until then!:-(

The next post will feature a recipe from today.  Dessert first!  How about that?

The week-end....

Monday morning has arrived!  What happened to the week-end?  Did you have some special things that kept you busy?

We took a trip to a nearby town for their Spring Festival.  This is one of our "must-sees." 

This machine is making ice cream - on site - for the enjoyment of those of us who wish to try it.  They have vanilla and chocolate!  The Husband and I always have to try some.:-)

This holds fifty gallons of ice cream.  The Community Club that operates this travels to various sites during the year.

While we were in this area, we went to visit the Country Couple.

Many things are blooming at their place.

We were also welcomed by Sprout!

.....sitting on the deck of a neighborhood bakery, this was the view....

....and these propane heaters gave warmth on a cool, windy evening.

A stop at the grocery store....

.....filled this counter.  Yikes!  Is it time to cook for the adult day care participants at my church already?  And I've only covered the Friday of the week-end!  Saturday and Sunday will have to wait, because it is definitely time to "get cooking!"

A dining experience....

On Thursday, The Husband and I went with a group from our church to the University Faculty Club for lunch.  The Culinary Departments of the University and the Community College had joined forces to prepare a meal with an Italian and Spanish theme.

This was the last meal in the series for this semester.  School is winding down around here.

We were favorably impressed, and hope to participate again in the future!

From childhood....

No, not from MY childhood, but from the time our children were younger.  We didn't watch a lot of television in those days, but there was a favorite show on Sundays on PBS.  It was "All Creatures Great and Small," a program taken from the series of books written by James Herriott about his experiences as a vet in Yorkshire in the English countryside.

We were familiar with the books he had written and had some of them on our shelves at that point.  It was a few years later that I became aware of these wonderful books for children.

These are only two of the books I have.  I will be sharing more of them in the future.

We had an exceptional dining experience at midday today.  That will be the focus of my next post.

In - and out....

Here we are at the second day of May already!  Did you change your calendar?  There are too many special dates in this month that I want to be sure I have the calendar turned.:-)

First of all, today is Machoman's mother's birthday!  So - I want to be sure to send happy birthday wishes along to her! 

One other date in May is Mother's Day. 

Violet!

 

 

This is a violet that was delivered to me as a Mother's Day gift a couple of years ago.  This one was one of three that were arranged in a basket - all in full bloom!  The others are not quite as ambitious as this one, and they are not in bloom as yet.  I really like the way this adds  beauty to the sunroom.

The color to these seems to be more vibrant this season.

I love the fluffy white blooms!

It is hard to believe that there is actual snow in some parts of the country!  Perhaps there are some real snowballs being made in Colorado.:-)

Another month....

Wow!  This year seems to be flying by!  Here we are at the beginning of another month!  Is there something special you want to accomplish in this month?  Sometimes, if we set some kind of goal for the month, we come to the beginning of another one feeling a good sense of accomplishment.  I know there is much to be done around here that I could identify as my own goal for the month.  I will be working on this and let you know my progress.

Earlier on the blog, I have shared that I sing with a Women's Chorus.  We have already had two performances, and another is scheduled for next week.  We were well-received at the first one, with dinner provided, plus a special love offering taken for us.  This performance was for a Primetimer's group at a church not too far away.

In every window.

These grapevine wreaths hung in every window in the sanctuary.  The wreaths are the result of the efforts of a church member, and the trimming varies depending on the season.

The theme for our program this season is based on songs dealing with dreams - "Deep Purple," "I Had A Dream," "Dream a Little Dream of Me," and others.  It has been fun to learn them.
