Step by step...

Step by step I am learning what I don't know about this computer.:-)  Let's see what I manage to accomplish with this post!:-)

When the laptop "crashed," I was actually out-of-town.  The past week-end was time for the UMW Leadership Development Days at Lake Junaluska, NC.  Thankfully, there was no snow that interfered with the plans for this training session.  It was the first time I had been to Lake Junaluska in the winter time.

On the drive over the mountain, I tried to take this picture.

Clouds over the mountain.

This was an amazing view!  The picture just doesn't do it justice!

From the hotel at Lake Junaluska on Sunday morning, I took these pictures.

Sunrise over the lake.

Just turned to the west.

Back toward the east.

Seconds after the first view to the east.
I may be "pushing my luck" with this one, so I'll go ahead and try to post.:-)

Our rain gauge has measured almost 8 inches of rain since it began late Sunday afternoon!  Now there is a chance of snow in the area for Thursday afternoon!  Flooding has been a major problem in surrounding counties, and now snow may be added to compound the problem!

Stay safe and warm!

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.

Learning....

Friends, I am learning about this computer, but still haven't posted any pictures yet.  Let me see if one will post today.

New in the house!

Well!  What do you know?  Here is the picture I was trying to post at the last post!  It is easy to see how shiny it is!:-)  The lamp, picture on the wall, and the windows are reflected in it!  I wonder how long it will be that shiny.:-)

There is still much for me to learn, and I am hoping the process will not be painful.:-)

Thank you so much for reading.   I appreciate your comments.

New in the house....

I am hoping this will publish.  It is my first try on this -

Well, it didn't work!  I will have to see how to be successful with adding pictures on this new computer.  Perhaps I will take a little time posting without pictures until I figure out how to add a picture.  I had the message that the server rejected the picture!

Thank you for reading!  I always read your comments!

Computer woes....

This post is actually not being written on my computer.  I fear my computer has "crashed," and it will be awhile before I know what the verdict is.  Also, I may be absent from blogging until I get everything worked out.

I send wishes along for a good week to all!

Thank you for following along.  I'll return as soon as possible.

Sunday....

The 2013 Prayer Calendar for United Methodist Women lists the Nome Community Center, Nome, Alaska as the mission focus for the day.

Today is also the First Sunday after Epiphany, observed by many churches as symbolic of the Baptism of the Lord.  Luke 2:22 begins the account of Simeon blessing the baby Jesus.

Joan Walsh Anglund has been a favorite author for many through the years.  I am fortunate to have been given several of her little books.  One that I have enjoyed is "The Circle of the Spirit," and I want to share something she has written in that book.

                                   "Only the open gate

                                                             can receive

                                                                                visitors.

                                    Only the open hand

                                                             can receive

                                                                                gifts.

                                    Only the open mind

                                                               can receive

                                                                                 wisdom.

                                   Only the open heart

                                                               can receive

                                                                                 love."

May your Sunday be filled with good blessings.

January's garden....

Most years, our weather would be referred to as the "January thaw."  Well, we don't have anything around to thaw, so that really isn't the proper term.  We are seeing a lot of green in the garden, though.  This time, it's in the herb "garden."  "Patch" is probably more like it.:-)

The bunny holds the sage.

Healthy rosemary.

The thyme is hanging on.

Red leaf on the strawberry plants.

Lavender needs some help.:-(

We have really been enjoying the sage, thyme, and rosemary this month.  Although I may have mentioned how nice a little snow might be, it might be a different story with the herbs.:-)

Thank you for following along with this blog.  Trying to schedule a publish time sometimes goes a bit awry with the internal mouse wanting to scoot along on a path it desires.:-)

I appreciate your comments.

Winter?

Our weather is not anything like winter at present.  In fact, the predicted low temperatures are in line with the normal high for this time of year!  It is actually not too unusual to have weather that isn't too much like winter.   This was often the case when I was teaching.   That was when this had to substitute for snow.

Crafts - and movies!

I would read a version of "Hans Brinker" to the class, then we would watch the movie.   Along with "Heidi," we would have a good introduction to what life is like where there is snow and ice.  Making paper snowflakes was always a good craft session.

Books for the season.

These are some good books to read during the winter weeks.  I also enjoy Robert Frost's poetry, and "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" is one of my favorites.

Is there anything YOU do to give you a taste of winter when the weather systems are not bringing it your direction?   While I'm not wishing for a blizzard, it would be nice to see just a little snow once during the winter.:-)

More January gifts in the next post.

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.
