Opportunity....

Happy Saturday!  Do you have plans for a good week-end?

Do you have a favorite flour when you bake?  Is there one in your area that everyone "swears by?" Do any of you use the King Arthur brand?

I began using King Arthur a few years ago, so I was really excited to see the announcement in our local newspaper about their baking team coming to town for two different demonstrations!

Display.
The Husband was interested in going with me, and we headed out mid-day on Wednesday for a demonstration on pie dough and scones.  The above display was in place when we arrived, and everything on the table was distributed as door prizes!  No.  I'm sorry to say that our ticket numbers were not called.  We did, however, enjoy the demonstration given.

Yay for cheese!

The Cabot Company has become a sponsor along with Red Star Yeast and Dansko shoes.

All needed supplies in order.

We enjoyed the first demonstration so much that we decided to attend the evening event.  This one was about yeast baking and using whole grain flour.  Yes, once again there were door prizes, and once again our numbers weren't called.  However, we did come home with some "goodies."

Flour for the pantry!

We now have a bag of King Arthur self-rising flour waiting in the pantry to be used, along with some good reading material.:-)  We were also given a sample size of Cabot cheese, a bowl scraper, and a packet of yeast.

It has been such a busy time here that I haven't done any bread baking.  I'm anxious to put to work some of the things we learned.

Oh, do you see the poinsettia in the background?  It is still doing beautifully from Christmas!  Also, the cloth is now the green and white of March.  The red and white have been stored away until the next time they are needed.

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.

  1. Well, you know me...I LOVE White Lily flour for almost everything! I have used King Arthur Whole Wheat flour, though, and I find it to be excellent! I'm sure everything you bake will be superb, as always! :-)

  2. Now that is a brand I have not seen as yet. Hmmm. I know the yeast brand though. I will look for the flour.

  3. I would have joined you. I think this is outstanding flour. My poinsettias are still going strong. They were both gifts and it's so nice to see them healthy well after Christmas.

  4. I love KAF, all their products are wonderful, I used to get whole wheat croissants delivered when they shipped some of their bakery products a while back, expensive but really delicious, no longer have this option. It looks like a fun demo. Cabot cheese is good, too. Can't understand the shoe company in the mix, lol. xo

  7. Did you want to try their pie crust recipe? Over your own, I mean.

  8. Yes, I did see the poinsettia.
I don't use a particular brand of flour - usually just what they have at the commissary.
I don't buy bread, but bake all my bread in a bread machine and for that I use bread machine flour but not any particular brand.

  9. What fun and yes, I do use King Arthur flour. Did you read Mitford by Jan Karon? Ever since I read those books I have used King Arthur flour. Since Esther's Orange Marmalade Cake. :)

  10. I'm a fan of wholemeal flour. I havn't baked bread for a long time. Now that Autumn is on the way, I will have to try it again.
I have missed a lot of your posts as I've been away from blogging for a while. I'm back now.
Do hope you have a good week and that you will be able to make some bread soon.

  11. I've heard that King Arthur has a higher protein content. I have always preferred it just because I love the legends of King Arthur! silly, I suppose.
But I generally buy what's on sale - Pillsbury or Gold Medal mostly. Hecker's is also very good, if it's ever on sale.
