On this date....

....in 1909, a baby was born.  He was the third of four children, all boys.

As an elementary school student.

He was my father.  He was a good man, seeing that we were in church every Sunday, plus mid-week as well.  I have memories of his encouragement as he would give out spelling words to my sister and me as we prepared for the school Spelling Bee.  He was a baseball fan, and the radio was always on for the games that would be carried by our local station.  I developed an enjoyment of baseball because of this.   I am honoring him by remembering his birthday today.

Thank you for reading.  I appreciate your comments.

  1. Yes, he was a good man, although "success" seemed to elude him. I recall that, during his declining years, he would tell our mother, "We've got two mighty fine girls." He loved us, but he rarely used those words. I'm remembering him on my Facebook cover page today, with the picture of him as we walked down the aisle on my wedding day. Thank you for this post today, dear Sister! I love you! :-)

  14. What a nice tribute to your father, Nellie. My Dad was born in 1889 (age 53 when I was born) and died in 1969. My Daddy loved baseball also--and that's why I have always enjoyed baseball...

Hope you are having a good day. Rain here again this afternoon.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
