The Fourth of July....

Today we celebrate the birthday of our country.  On this date in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed.  Through the years, our flag has changed.

Early flag.

From the moon.

We are ready here!

Francis Scott Key was inspired by the sight of the flag flying following the battle that he wrote the "Star-Spangled Banner," a song that was destined to become our National Anthem.

The first American moon explorers, in July 1969, positioned the American flag on the moon's surface before returning to Earth.

I think the eagle is a suitable choice for our National Bird.  I, for one, am really glad the turkey was not selected!  Turkey is a favorite around here!:-)

The rain continues here, causing problems with outdoor plans on this holiday.  There have been cancellations of planned festivities due to the rain, with flash flood warnings/watches issued for several nearby areas.  Are you having rain today where you are?

Thank you for reading   I really appreciate your comments.
