More memories....

Happy Friday to everyone!  Are you glad to have the week-end just around the corner?

As the last post gave me opportunity to bring back some memories, so does this one.

One of my favorite times when I was teaching was reading.  It was such fun to introduce the students to different authors and different kinds of books.  Here are some from one of my favorite authors.

Patricia MacLachlan's books.

Patricia MacLachlan is one of my favorite authors for children.  I cannot say what her most recent books may be.  After retiring, I lost my Scholastic Book Club connection, and that was the way I was able to keep up with the latest in children's literature.

"All the Places to Love" is a really pretty book and a good story about the arrival of a baby sister for the older boy.

This is the first page, showing the new baby sister.

Here is big brother showing little sister "all the places to love."

February was also a time to study the Presidents and the government.

Those Raspberry Roll-Ups....

I wish I  could have you join me for another cup of coffee and one of these roll-ups! Someone needs
to see that they disappear very quickly.:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

Now - you can see that I have activated something on this computer while working on this post.  Something that I would prefer to discover how to de-activate.:-)  Oh, well.  Thank you for staying with me.:-)

  2. I'm nearly 76, and I can still remember my 3rd and 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Murry, reading books to us, during school. !!!!!!!!!!!! Love, love, love that memory.

What did you activate? You have me wondering now.. What did you miss-activate? -giggles-

  3. I have always loved books, and it was one of my greatest joys to introduce new books to our children when they were young! Of course, they soon began reading those books to me, and that pleased me greatly.

I do not notice anything "new" from your computer. Perhaps it is something that is noticeable only from your end...anyway, those roll-ups look just as delicious as they did when you first posted the picture and the recipe! Have a great day! :-)

  6. When I was in grade school I always looked forward to our teacher handing out the Scholastic Book Club catalogue. I had the hardest time deciding what two books to order. Given that my parents were raising 6 kids, they somehow always found the money to let us purchase these quality books. The most exciting day was when you saw the box holding your order next to the teachers desk. We had to wait until the end of the day to get them in our hands. Shear joy! Scholastic books greatly fueled my love of reading for life. Thanks for reminding me of simple pleasures.

  7. Nellie, I always told my children that reading was the most important subject...because if you can read, you can learn everything else. My girls still enjoy reading. xoxo,Susie

  9. I've loved books my whole life. So many books and just not enough time to read them all.

  10. Oh how I love reading. I have read avidly since second grade. In those days, we were learning to read and by third grade we were excellent readers. I wore out the library everywhere I have lived both in the U.S. and abroad. I have several thousand hardbacks here at home. All of them are old friends and I cannot part with them.

I remember when we had to learn to read Dick and Jane. Because we were brand new at reading it seemed so hard at first but after a day or so, it was a question of memory as much as anything and carrying what you learned (of course!) forward. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Hope to see you before too much longer as my boy gains his life back. XXOO

  11. You know when I was in fourth grade our teacher read us Charlotte's Web and Little Britches by Ralph Moody. Do you know I still consider that to be the best part about school even now. I loved that part of the day.
I am sure your students loved it as much and maybe remember like I do. I think it was then I fell in love with books.
