Is it summer yet?

- The Women's Chorus, of which I am a member, gave the last performance of our current program yesterday.  We will return to rehearsals on August 7.  Is it summer yet?

- Our local schools were dismissed for the 2013-14 school year yesterday at mid-day.  Their next day of classes - the beginning of the 2014-15 school year - will be August 11, 2014.  Is it summer yet?

- Admittedly, I wondered in a recent post if winter was returning (last Saturday when the thermometer's reading was 36 degrees), but our high temperature yesterday wasn't far from 90 degrees.  Is it summer yet?

- The Youth Choir from our church is beginning their tour this week-end.  Is it summer yet?

- The Husband reports the appearance of potato bugs in the garden!  Is it summer yet?

- The coming week-end will be observed as Memorial Day week-end.  Is it summer yet?

While the above are all signs of summer, the calendar indicates we are almost a month away from the official beginning of summer.

Do you have special plans for summer - whether it has "arrived" where you are, or whether you are waiting for that official date in June?

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. Good morning, Sister! My major plan for summer is to stay as cool as possible, which might be a tall order if the past couple of days are any indication! I hope that your day will be a good one, whatever you have planned. Stay cool....if possible! :-)

  2. We have no mosquitos yet... shhhhhs. It's so nice to work outdoors right now. Not too hot and not too cold, just right... Spring blooms are in full swing and the grass is nice and green.

I wonder what kind of summer we'll have this year.
There has been a change in the weather we are used to so it's hard to predict.
    Definitely no summer here yet.

    Hugs,
    JB

  3. Hi Nellie,
Yes this weekend we will have summer again. It might hit triple digits by Sunday.
But I think we had a bout a week of winter and a week of spring so far.
    :)
I do hope it warms up for you. Have a nice weekend.

  4. Good morning Nellie!! My main plans for summer will involve getting ready for me move to Germany. It's going to be a months-long process of course :)

  8. In my mind it's summer now. Last night I had the lawn mowed for the first time this season. Love the smell of fresh cut grass. And then the June bugs came out. I could hear them pinging off the window screens

  9. We're hoping for temps in the 70s this weekend. The girls and my husband have 2 weeks left of school. I've definitely got summer on the brain. Hugs!

  11. It isn't Summer here Nelly and won't be for another six months! However, we have had some beautiful Autumn days for the past twelve days with record breaking temperatures for the month of May. Winter begins at he beginning of June (officially).
I am surprised to read how long your schools have off over summer. Schools have five week's summer holidays here.
    Enjoy the week-end.

  12. It's just about summer here. I've been spending more time outside and less time at the computer. It's great for fresh air, but less great for blogging. But the warm days without humidity are rare and I love being out when I can. Wishing you a great weekend.
