Easter reading....

Are you looking for something to read to children for this season?  Here are a couple of suggestions.

Have you heard of this one?  The story was copyrighted in 1956, but Scholastic issued their first printing in 1993.

The major question has to do with that enormous egg!  Look what hatched!

There is quite an entertaining story about the experiences with this surprise!

A favorite of mine has long been this story -

I love the story, of course, and these illustrations are magical!

Follow up that reading with a video!

Yes, it is a VCR tape - a bit dated, I know - though it is my favorite telling of this lovely story.

A classic for all of us to enjoy is this one -

Peanuts is always good!

With the weather playing tricks on many of us, perhaps this week-end is a good time to stay indoors and read.

One reminder - there is a giveaway currently in progress.  You have until next Tuesday to comment if you are interested in this one.

Good luck!

  1. Nellie, I love your Velveteen Rabbit book. I need to start looking for collectable books for our Layla Rose. I think giving books is more than giving gifts, don't you? Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  2. Books are great, and I'm always ready for Peanuts! Yes, our weather has become a bit less than springlike, but it feels quite nice to me today. Maybe I'm just a bit crazy, but you would know that better than I would. :-) I hope you're having a fabulous Friday, Sister!

  10. I, too, haven't thought of "The Enormous Egg" in decades. Oliver Butterworth taught in Hartford -- college level, I think -- and was a friend of our school librarian. He came and spoke to my class in either fourth or fifth grade. He was the first author I remember meeting and my memory of him is a very kind and thoughtful man.

  11. I have a set of small books that includes The Velveteen Rabbit. Can't believe April and Easter are right around the corner... already. April will also mean one year since my granddaughter lost her Daddy. They are making plans to scatter his ashes. I still can't believe he's gone.

  12. I love my books from my childhood. I managed to hang on to quite a few of them. I also have books treasured by the oxymorons. Children's books are the best.

    Love,
    Janie

  13. I read The Enormous Egg to countless children for whom I babysat, and, of course, to my own. I also read The Velveteen Rabbit to my children, and it's still on our bookshelf. We also have The Velveteen Rabbit on tape - my kids called it "Hoppy" when they were very small. You've made some great Easter selections.
