It is highly unlikely that any sets of Jacks remain intact from those childhood years.
So, I went out to buy a set. Seems like there were twelve jacks in those long ago (for me) years. They also seem to have a different appearance.
Well, there are no complete sets from those past years here; however, there is one to use for comparison.
Do you see the difference? We had to be sure that all the jacks were off the floor when we were finished playing. They didn't feel good at all on bare feet! Ouch!
Oh, yes!! I do remember those, and the pain of stepping on one! OUCH is an understatement! I also recall that I seemed to lack the coordination required to be really good at that game, but I did manage to do fairly well after lots of practice. ReplyDeleteNellie, I love the jacks. We used to play them and some times one would be left out. My brother just 3 weeks ago mentioned when daddy stepped on one and was hopping around whistling ..cause it hurt so badly. I know we all have some of the same memories. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

We played jacks all the time. It's fun to remember the games that one doesn't see often these days.

I think my Dad threw mine away when I left them in the floor and his bare feet always found them. I went through lots of sets. :)

The old one you have is really cool looking.
I've never played jacks and I never owned a set. I played a lot of board games and made puzzles but mostly played outdoors with all my many friends. There were a lot of kids in the neighbourhood.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, I loved playing them. And of course mine too, are long gone! (Did you notice a weight difference in the two? I figured ours were heavier...don't ask me why? Just seems, when things are reproduced their made cheaper! But still fun to possibly teach your grandchildren how to play!!

Oh yes, I remember jacks and used to play them with my mother. She was a great player. : ) What a difference from the then and now jacks!! I might just have to go and get myself some.
