'Tis the season....

....for apples, and that sounds good to us here!

Of course, these have a special role -

They are just for decor, but don't they look very real?

These have a purpose - soon to become applesauce!

After we enjoyed a portion of that applesauce, however, this is all that remained for the freezer!:-)  There is a special appeal of warm, freshly-prepared applesauce!

I believe this recipe may have come from one of my trusty Betty Crocker cookbooks, but I long ago copied it onto a handier recipe card.  Enjoy!

I prefer Granny Smith apples for this.

  1. Nellie, You know just about everyone loves apples. Making applesauce is a lots of work and not so much sauce at times. My FIL, many years ago, came to my house with about a cup of applesauce . He had made it himself and was so very proud. He said he thought it was going to be much more, till it cooked down. :):) Poor pops...loved that old fellow so much. I hope you get to enjoy the rest of your sauce with one of your wonderful meals. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  2. Oh, I can just imagine the aroma from your kitchen while that was cooking, and it would not have lasted long here, either! I'm enjoying Autumn vicariously through you, Sister! Keep up the good work! :-)

  4. Applesauce is in my future too. I have a 1/2 of a bushel sitting on my counter. I have to stay home long enough to do it. I like your recipe. Applesauce around here doesn't stay around long enough to make it to the freezer. :) Have a lovely day!

  5. I love Granny Smith apples for applesauce, too, Nellie. I think it gives a lot more "pop" to the sauce...it is just a bit more tart. Have a great day- xo Diana

Love applesauce. Reminds me of my gramma. She used to make it all the time.

  8. I love apple season! I've never made applesauce before. Do you eat it on its own or use it as a spread? xoxo
