Better late than never....

How was your weekend?  Were you able to include something enjoyable that contributed to your relaxation and restoration?

The weekend began on a familiar note....a UMW activity!  It was time for our District UMW Annual Meeting, and that meant I had to be up and ready earlier than a usual slow moving Saturday.  It also interfered with taking time to come up with something special for Saturday breakfast.  It was good to be able to connect via Zoom!

I was not interrupted, however, with plans for Sunday Lunch....just didn’t manage to have a blog post about it.  Here it is....only two days late.:-)

On the menu for Sunday....Country-style Ribs (a touch of bbq sauce), roasted butternut squash (from Country Girl’s garden), succotash (with green pepper from our very tiny garden), rolls (a recipe I’ve had for over 50 years).....and pumpkin cake!

Extra rolls are always appreciated....

The Pumpkin Cake recipe is one from a small town newspaper 48 years ago.  It has become a tradition; I’ve baked it at least 48 times!

I hope you are still taking appropriate precautions during these pandemic days.  Today’s totals for our local county for the virus have set a record.  We continue to wear masks and practice social distancing.  We avoid large crowds and wash hands frequently.  We continue to wipe down groceries.  It is encouraging to hear news about the development of vaccines, though it will be a number of months before they are available.  We need to continue to take precautions!

Stay well!

  1. Good evening, Sister! Your meal sounds so, so good! I've eaten your pumpkin cakes, and that's a recipe worth keeping, for sure! I love your turkey dishes....such a neat presentation. I'm continuing to be careful when I have to be out and about; had a pick-up order this morning, so I was able to stay in my car while the sweet gal loaded my items into my back seat. Most of this order was for cleaning supplies, so I didn't bother to wipe those down, as I don't need them yet. I'll just let them sit a few days and allow the germs to dissipate on their own. I'm sure you're being really careful and will continue to do so. Love you!

  2. Wow, Nellie—what a lovely lunch. Lots of food!!! That would last me for a week LOL I love squash and this is the perfect time of the year for it! We would bake them and when we turned them right side up..we’d put brown sugar and half & half in them. Oh my were they good!!! That’s how Tom’s family made them. So many different traditions. I love your plates, so festive!! Got your thoughtful card today. Thank you!!!

    Blessings and stay safe,
    Gert

  3. Hello Nellie. Thanks so much for your visits and comments. Well, guess what? COVID cases are rising here in Massachusetts, too, and even in the small burg where I live. This pandemic is a true killer. I am sticking to home a lot, wearing a mask at all times when I do venture out, and just trying to survive. It is a most horrible time in our history, isn't it, Nellie. Your feast looked good! Take care, dear friend. Susan

  4. Nellie, I declare that your food could turn this vegetarian back to eating meat again {after thirty years of abstinence} It all looks so delicious, as always. I really think, even once we have a vaccine, the impact and ramifications of Covid will be with us for a very long time, and things like washing our groceries and wearing masks will continue.
    Stay safe and stay well,
    Deb xoxo

    Stay safe and well.
