On Tuesday....

This past Tuesday morning, the United Methodist Women of my church had our regular meeting.  There was a special event as part of the plan for the morning.

Many - or all - of you may have heard about Project Linus.  This involves making blankets for children who have experienced - or are experiencing - traumatizing events.  Project Linus began in 1998, and since that time 4 1/2 million blankets have been presented to children!

Our local UMW Unit became involved five years ago.  In that time, we have donated 905 blankets to Project Linus.  On Tuesday, there was a blessing of the most recent group of blankets that have been completed.

Part of the blankets.

Still more.

They were very colorful!
There have been some very busy people working on these blankets!  I congratulate those who work on this project for a job well-done!

That box of Rice Krispies....

If you have been following the blog for awhile, you know that I have recently posted a couple of recipes using Rice Krispies.

Cheese Wafers.

That Halloween treat.

Can you believe there are still Rice Krispies in the box?!?  So - off to my recipe files again to see how to use more of them.  That's when I found this recipe, clipped from the newspaper a few years ago.

HONEY RANGER COOKIES
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups honey
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups crisp rice cereal
2 cups quick or old-fashioned oats
1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
- Using electric mixer, beat butter until light.  Gradually add honey; beat until light and creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- In large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.  Gradually add to butter mixture; mix until blended.  Stir in rice cereal, oats, and coconut.  Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto greased baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.  Flatten to 2-inch circles.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies ar set.  Transfer cookies to wire racks; cool completely.  Yield: About 4 dozen cookies.

On the pan, in the oven.

Cooling on the racks.

I actually got more than 4 dozen cookies from this recipe.  The Husband declared these "good enough to eat," so this recipe will stay in my file.:-)

However - there are still more Rice Krispies remaining!  I guess they will have to appear on the breakfast menu.:-)

Yesterday's prediction for snow didn't happen here, though the wind blew colder and colder as the day progressed.  The temperature has dropped twenty degrees today!

I hope you are having a good week, and if you are where the temperature is really cold - stay warm!

Out and about....

I thought I'd share some images with you that were spotted when we were out and about yesterday.

A man's house is his castle.....

.....literally!  We have watched this being built for sometime now, and The Husband assumed it was going to be an office building.  Then there was an article in the paper with the information that it is actually a private residence that is being constructed!  It is high on a hill above one of the busiest roadways in this part of town!  The local high school is out of sight in the picture, but is on the right, within view of the house.

The motel of many colors!

The different colors of this new motel don't really show up well in the picture.  We watched as it was being built and found it interesting that so many varying colors were used in its construction.

There is still some color left here!

I was trying to take a picture that would show that we have some color remaining on the trees.  I wonder what the predicted wind will do to the leaves today.

Not too early!

This was part of the decoration at the Mary Kay Center where I went to view the holiday display set up by my favorite consultant!  Oh!  Yes, I did make a purchase or two.:-)

This was actually a half moon!

On the close up setting.

These last two pictures were taken at 5:30 in the afternoon as I stood in our backyard!  I don't understand the extra spots on the first picture.  It looks like there were raindrops on the lens.  I took the picture on the bottom immediately after I took the other one.  Guess I need to study up on my camera.:-)

I hope you had a good Monday and that good things will come your way today.

Glorious....

First, let me begin by acknowledging the Veterans and expressing appreciation for their service.  There are several special programs planned for many areas, with banks and post offices closed today.

I think "glorious" is an appropriate description for the week-end around here.

You know that I like to have the week-end begin on Friday.:-)  That is how this one began for us.  Munchomom came through town on her way to meet City Girl for a yoga retreat over the week-end, so she stopped for lunch!  If you are a parent of adult "children," you know it is always a good day when you are able to see one of them!:-)

On Saturday, I spent much of the day at a District UMW Annual Meeting/Training at a church in a nearby town.  It was a good time of fellowship with friends from other locations across our large District, and we were blessed by an outstanding speaker for our worship!

The worship table.

Closeup of the UMW theme for this year.

When the speaker came, she added a dove to the worship table.  I didn't have another opportunity to take a picture showing the addition.

The weather was beautiful over the week-end!  The prediction for the week sounds ominous, though.  There is even a mention of the possibility of some of that white precipitation!

Unfortunately, the Vols were not successful at winning their game with Auburn.  There is an open week before the next game when Vanderbilt comes to town!

I hope the week ahead will be a good one for you!  If you are in the path of this "cold front," stay warm and safe!

For Sunday....

On this Sunday,  the Mission Focus from the UMW Prayer Calendar is the Scott's Run Settlement House, Osage, W. Va.

This quote from Cicero seems appropriate at all times, though it is probably in our thoughts more often during this season.

"A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue,

but the parent of all other virtues."

Wishing you a Sunday filled with blessings!

Will this be the last?

Happy Saturday to you!  I hope your day has started off on a good note.

Several days ago, I posted a picture of what I assumed would be the "last roses of summer."  I had cut the roses from our knock-out bushes when we expected colder temperatures.  Since that time, we have had several cold and frosty mornings, so I was surprised when I noticed these.

A rose is blooming....

....and another!

Some small buds here....

....and another bloom here....

....and here....

and here!

Of course, there are mums!

Do you see the bumblebee working?

Even the begonia is joining in!

Surely this will be the "last roses of the summer."

As our temperatures have become as cold as predicted, these are probably the last roses of summer from here.

There is a football game this afternoon.  The VOLS will play 9th-ranked Auburn for Homecoming.  Keeping up with that game will surely fill part of my day.:-)

Not the first....

Happy Friday to you!  The first week of November is behind  us now.  Have you had a good week?  Do you have some good plans for the week-end?

At this time of year most of us possibly give some thought to the Pilgrims and their role in our celebration of Thanksgiving.  The Pilgrims were actually not the first settlers in the "new land," but they certainly have our focus this month.

There are some books that I found useful in the classroom during this time.

We even sang the first one!:-)

Another source for information.

Our Pilgrim study led us to immigration.

The settlers at Jamestown and Plymouth were the early immigrants.  The ensuing years brought many immigrants to the New World, and we would learn about some of them in the classroom.

There is even a book for little hands.

The Munchkins enjoyed this when they were small.

There is even a book that I enjoy.:-)

I enjoy rereading the stories and recipes that are in this book, and at times use it for inspiration.

Once again, I want to acknowledge a new follower!  Thank you so much for coming along.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.
