Christmas is coming.....

.....and we have been making preparations by beginning rehearsal of these:

A new one for us!

Familiar words.

Humor about the Christmas season.

That shiny red notebook - and name tag.

The Women's Chorus from the Senior Center will soon have our fourth rehearsal with these selections.  We already have five performances scheduled in December for this program!  Busy days are ahead!

It was a little strange to be singing Christmas music in August.:-)  With only one rehearsal a week, though, that is what we must do in order to have the program ready by the first of December.

Don't worry!  We aren't trimming the Christmas tree just yet!:-)

For today....

I find these words from the "Prayer of St. Francis" to be appropriate at any day, and especially good to remember today.  I'm sure they are familiar words to many of you.

"Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,

And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope.

Where there is darkness, only light,

And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console,

To be understood as to understand,

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

In giving of ourselves that we receive,

And in dying that we're born to eternal life."

One of summer's prizes....

One of my favorite "prizes" from the summer garden is this:

Watermelon!
Yes, The Husband brought this in on Sunday afternoon!  Just to be sure it was worth keeping, he did that old-fashioned "plugging!"

Looking good!

And - tasting even better!

The first of the season!

We find that a cold slice of watermelon is very refreshing on a hot day!

I hope this Tuesday will be a good one for you.  The week is well-underway around here!

The week-end....

....was a beautiful one here!  It was just right for taking a trip!  So, we were up early on Saturday morning to be on time for this!

And - we made it before 10:00!

This was a special week-end at Emory and Henry.  As the program mentions, it was the 2013 Induction Ceremony of several former students into the Sports Hall of Fame.  Also on the program was the retiring of the football jersey of a former football player who has become a golf buddy of The Husband during More Than A Vacation events.

There were quite a number of MTAV participants present, and it was rather like a reunion.

Of course, there was a football game!:-)

Pregame warmups!

Almost time to play!

The mascot.

Cheerleaders!
We had been invited to attend a Third Quarter reception in the new (for 2012 season) field house.

Located on the east end of the field.
Emory and Henry's opponent for the game was Ferrum.  The Husband and I sat on the 50-yard line to watch some of the game.  It was exciting to see Emory and Henry play in a winning fashion.

Tried to get a picture of the scoreboard.

The final score of the game was Emory and Henry - 49; Ferrum - 13.

Before leaving campus, I took this picture.

The Mercantile!

"Oh, no!" you say.  "Is she shopping again?"  Well, of course.  One must be sure to have the proper fall wardrobe....

....and a Tervis tumbler is always handy.:-)

Ready and waiting for use!
I hope you are ready for a good week.  It is going to be like summer around here today, with a predicted high temperature of 90 degrees F!

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

For today....

On this Sunday, I have another quote from Max Lucado and his book "Hope, Pure and Simple."

"We are significant, not because of what we do,

but because of whose we are."

The Mission Focus for today from the UMW Prayer Calendar for 2013 is the Wesley House Community Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Wesley House Centers have many locations, and they provide invaluable services to the area where they serve. Volunteers are welcome.

I send wishes for a blessed Sunday to each of you.

Waiting for us....

The week-end is here!  Do you have any special plans?

We were away last week-end.  We left, hoping the cantaloupe would ripen while we were gone and that there would be no pests that would take off with them!

This was waiting for us when we returned.

The Husband picked this one - plus some others as well!

As you can see, this one was perfect inside!  Not only did it look good, the flavor was also good!  We even took a melon to the neighbor!

The Husband hung aluminum foil pie pans on the pear tree the other day to discourage the crows from nibbling on the pears.  It worked!  The crows were not too happy the next morning, but they haven't returned!

Some of you have mentioned signs of fall where you are.  This is the best indication we have had here.

Some of you call this Burning Bush.  Some of you call it Nandina.  It will really be pretty as fall progresses.

I hope you will enjoy your week-end.

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

Some "classics...."

Happy Friday!  How has the first week of September been for you?  Are you ready for a good week-end?

Earlier posts on this blog have indicated that I have a love of books for children.  Here are some I think are classics.

Shel Silverstein!

These are books that I think are good for children to have on their bookshelves!  My favorite book by this same author, though, is this one.

Oops! I didn't intend for it to be blurry.:-(

This is "The Giving Tree."  It is about an apple tree and all the many gifts it was able to give the young boy throughout his life.
There are many ways the tree is happy!

I loved to read this book to my class when I was teaching.  The tree is an apple tree, and the story fit right into the apple emphasis I had for September.

I hope you have some good plans for the days ahead!

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.
