Back to the beginning....

The very first cookbook I had was Betty Crocker's Dinner For Two, published in 1958.  I bought it myself when I moved into my first apartment.  This is a favorite -

Scalloped potatoes!  Those black specks are freshly ground black pepper.:-)

There are times when I have added chopped ham as one of the layering ingredients.  Also, there have been times when I've sprinkled a bit of grated cheese between the layers.  Gruyere is especially good.

Another good dish for fall!

  2. Nellie, My daughter makes these. I never have. Now I just won't cook anything that might splatter in my oven. LOL. My sister got a Betty Crocker cookbook from having a Tupperware party once...I think it helped her to become a wonderful cook. I think everyone in my family has their best things that they can make. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. Oh yum. I love scalloped potatoes. I sprinkle some crumbled bacon and use cheese on top. I've also used some Campbell Cream of Mushroom with milk and it's make a delicious variation. Scalloped potatoes is perfect for a rainy day like today.

  9. I used to have that cookbook, Nellie. I make my potatoes differently now, though, using a white sauce instead of plain milk. Both are good. Hope you are well and happy. Susan
