The weekend....

....gave us a busy Saturday!  When the chore was completed, the Country Couple had assisted The Husband with burning an accumulation of brush.  We were left with this....

This pile of ashes kept enough heat....with more to spare....for baking potatoes on Sunday afternoon.  The Husband wrapped them in foil and buried them in the ashes, with great results!

There is the pot of baked potatoes!  They are delicious!  Of course, we usually cook more baked potatoes than we need at once, so we’re happy to have all these extra!

We had hoped the ashes might be hot enough to honor this day....National S’Mores Day....but the rainfall that has come our way today has sadly done away with that plan.  It’s not like we actually need another dessert option around here.:-)

Sunday lunch went as planned....

Some vinegar cole slaw, compliments of my favorite market, sneaked in to be part of the menu, and dessert?  Well, that’s a great use of zucchini!  Double Chocolate Zucchini Cake!  I’ve posted that recipe on the blog before, with a number of pictures to demonstrate the process.  It was part of a Picnic Game link that I joined.  It may be possible to do a search for it.

As always, I hope you are doing what is needed to stay healthy, plus to encourage those who are near to you to stay healthy as well!  Be safe!  Remember to wear your mask!  Avoid large groups!  If we all do our part, we will be finished with this horrid time more quickly!  Remember to wash your hands often!

  2. I love that you used the ashes to bake potatoes, Nellie! I bet they were delicious. We are staying safe here. Our annual beach week had to be cancelled because of Covid. Our daughter and son-in-law from New England came down to visit. Their son lives with us and have not seen him or us since January. It was wonderful to see them, but I must say it was strange not being able to hug my own child...Take care.

  3. Good evening, Sister! I'm sure those baked potatoes were beyond delicious, and I'm hankering for one now. Can you email one to me, please? LOL Too bad you didn't have come some corn to roast in that fire - I love the taste of grilled corn on the cob! Everything looks mighty scrumptious, and I'm glad you'll have potatoes for a few more feasts. I'm wearing my mask when I go out, washing my hands often, and missing my kids terribly. Stay safe and well. Love you!

  4. Well, I should have done a better job of proofreading my comment! Should just say "Too bad you didn't have some corn to roast...." Oh, well.....get me started thinking about food, and you never know what might come out of my fingers! Still love you!

  5. What a great idea for the baked potatoes! I use left overs for potato salad or home fries. Looks like a great picnic.

  6. Oh that beautiful cake! I'm definitely mask wearing, staying out of crowds and being very cautious if I am indoors. And definitely hand washing. Take care!

  7. Even in high summer, I love jacket potatoes! As always, your food looks so delicious and tempting. My father always spread ashes in the garden, very good apparently, so it's a shame the rain came on them.

  8. Sunday lunch looks delightful! Funny, I just posted about baked potatoes--of course, my method used a boring old oven instead of ashes!
