No labor for this today....

At some point, between this....

Was this in a previous post?

....and this....

Yes, that's corn - OFF the cob!

....I became a slacker with the camera and failed to photograph the ears just after they had been gathered!

The Husband used this handy appliance....

Have you seen one of these?

....and the ears of corn soon were ready to become this....

Cream style corn!

There were about a dozen ears that yielded about four cups of prepared cream style corn.  It is now in the freezer, but that isn't nearly enough!  We will be hoping for much more before the growing season is finished.  This is a favorite around here, and it has been part of our Thanksgiving dinner for a number of years.

I hope you are enjoying this Labor Day holiday, a day off from work for many.  Do you have some enjoyable plans with family and friends?  We actually aren't working with corn today, but did this one day last week.:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. Nellie, My twin daughters got together and put up corn last week. When I think about that, I have to laugh. Those girls loved corn more than any other veggie. This is how they ate it. I would make fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. they would put the corn on top of the potatoes. Always ! Hope you and your husband enjoy your corn one of those cold days, that you know we will have this coming winter. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  2. I love fresh cream style corn. I used to put up a lot of frozen corn in years gone by. It is a lot of work, but so worth it.

  7. That corn will be greatly enjoyed by everyone at your lovely home for that Thanksgiving dinner! You and The Husband have worked very hard this summer, and I'm sure you will enjoy the fruits of your labors in the coming months, as will many others who visit you. Have a wonderful day! :-)

  8. I like cream style corn, especially with potato scallop, but I love sweet corn on the cob with butter and a wee sprinkle of salt.

Darn, I got it all wrong. I thought that Labor Day meant that I was supposed to work hard, you know...by the labor of your brow...
    Happy Labor Day.
    Hugs,

  16. I can't begin to tell you how much I miss the time our family spent shucking corn at my grandmother's house. I am sure at the time I thought it nothing more than menial labor but oh, what I wouldn't give to go back in time to sit with my relatives and share this chore with them!
