This is the day....

Do these colors remind you of something that has been on the blog recently?

You are correct!:-)  They are the colors of the sugar that was sprinkled on the King Cake!

These are Mardi Gras colors, and they have special meaning.  Green is for Faith, Gold is for Power, and Purple is for Justice.

This day is the conclusion of the Mardi Gras season for this year.  Many people know this day as Shrove Tuesday.

Is there a special food you associate with today?  What about pancakes?  Are you in an area where there are pancake suppers planned for tonight?  Perhaps pancakes are even on the menu for you tonight.  They are on the menu here!  I'm planning to try a different recipe.  If it is successful, you will hear about it in a day or two.:-)

Thank you for reading.  I really appreciate your comments.

  1. I don't think I had ever heard what those colors represent, so I thank you for enlightening us! Today is IHOP's "free" pancake day, and people are encouraged to make a donation for the Children's Miracle Network. We aren't able to go there, so I think that I shall also make pancakes for our supper today. Wonder whether chocolate chips in them will still qualify for a proper meal.... :-) Have a wonderful day, Sister!

No, we don't have any traditions like that. It is always interesting to read about it.
Today is my daughters birthday so I guess we just do birthday things. :)

  5. We enjoyed Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday SO much when living in Nawlins. We always had pancakes on 'fat' Tuesday.... Today though, we won't be having pancakes -although it is tempting!!!! If we didn't have so much ice around, I would be tempted to go to the IHop in Cookeville for pancakes today!!!!! Oh Well.

Hope your daughter makes it home safely.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. Thanks to your inspiration, I made a King Cake yesterday on our unexpected day off! The girls had fun sprinkling the sugar on top and when we divided it among our friends, we snuck several babies in!
